Montessori Elementary

The Montessori Elementary Program is for 6 to 12 year olds scientifically designed for the mind of the rapidly developing child. No longer content with the physical independence that was achieved in the 3 to 6 year old environment, children now strive for intellectual independence. This is a time of insatiable curiosity and excitement for learning. The children are starting to realize that the world is an enormous and interesting place. They are primed to study continents, culture, science and great literature.

Elementary teachers at Calgary Montessori School have both Montessori and Alberta Teaching Certification. It is the job of the Montessori guide to provide the child with the materials and information to discover the interconnectedness of the universe. The carefully developed curriculum guides the child through identifying, classifying and researching all of the fascinating concepts in each field of study.

The areas of practical life, language, math, geometry, botany, geography and history are all found in the elementary class, with materials that lead the child to abstraction. Each guide has a deep understanding of the requirements of the Alberta Program of Studies and strive to ensure these requirements are incorporated into all elements of the Montessori Elementary Program.
